House Rules

  • The work carried out at Repair Café Newburyport is performed free of charge on a voluntary basis by the Repairers present.
  • Visitors are encouraged to watch the Repairers whenever practical to see how the repair is being done and to pick up new skills. Visitors are expected to remain at the Repair Café while the repair is being made.
  • Visitors offering items for repair do so at their own risk. Neither the Repair Café Organizers nor the Repairers are liable for any loss or injury that may result from any repair carried out at the Café or for any advice or instructions given and used at a later date.
  • Repairers offer no guarantees for the repairs and are not liable if objects that are repaired in the Repair Café do not work properly at home.
  • New materials needed for a repair can be supplied/obtained by the Visitor or may be available from the Repairer at cost. If the Repairer supplies the material, they will be reimbursed directly by the Visitor.
  • Repairers are entitled to refuse to repair an item.
  • Repairers are not obligated to reassemble disassembled items that cannot be repaired.
  • Visitors are responsible for taking home all items they bring, whether or not they were repaired. Toward Zero Waste Newburyport can advise on responsible disposal.
  • Only one item may be registered for repair at a time. Once that item has been repaired or deemed irreparable, you may then register another item.
  • Parents are responsible for the supervision, behavior and safety of their children while at the Repair Café site. Children may not be left unattended.
  • Repairers and Visitors consent to photographs/videos taken at the Repair Café being used for publicity purposes. Please make it clear to photographers/videographer if you do NOT want your image to be used in this way.
  • Voluntary donations to support the costs of running this and future Repair Cafés are much appreciated. Donation jars are at the Check Out table.
